What the Science Says

Fruit juice color is a natural pigment extracted from fruits — such as berries, grapes, or cherries — and used primarily as a colorant in food and supplement products. It gives capsules, powders, and liquids their red, purple, or orange hues. While the source fruits themselves contain antioxidant compounds like anthocyanins, there is no clinical evidence that the coloring agent used in supplements delivers meaningful health benefits at the trace amounts typically present.

What It Doesn't Do

Won't provide antioxidant benefits at coloring doses. Not a substitute for eating actual fruit. No evidence it improves immunity, energy, or any health outcome. The colorful appearance does not mean the product is more effective or nutrient-dense.

Absorption & Bioavailability

Unknown — used in trace amounts as a colorant, not as an active ingredient. Absorption of pigment compounds at these doses is not clinically studied.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • Often listed to make a product appear more 'natural' without providing any functional benefit
  • Trace amounts used for coloring are far below any dose studied for health effects
  • May mask the absence of actual active fruit-derived ingredients in the formula
  • Consumers may confuse the colorant with a meaningful dose of fruit extract or antioxidants
  • No regulatory standard defines what health claims, if any, are permitted for this ingredient
