Does Omega-3 Fish Oil Help With Omega-3 fatty acids demonstrate anti-inflammatory and ant...?
Moderate EvidenceEvidence Summary
Omega-3 fatty acids demonstrate anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects across multiple clinical contexts: IV omega-3 reduced delirium duration, ICU stay, and mechanical ventilation days in sepsis patients (PMID: 40643182); oral omega-3 combined with Manuka honey reduced oxidative stress markers and improved lipid profiles in pediatric beta-thalassemia (PMID: 37458648); and perioperative IV omega-3 reduced delayed gastric emptying by 71% after gastric cancer surgery (PMID: 40268084). In sickle cell disease, omega-3 supplementation significantly reduced painful crisis frequency and severity compared to standard therapy alone (PMID: 35916800). Animal data suggest fish oil may protect cerebellar proteins from oxidative carbonylation caused by obesogenic diets (PMID: 38247527).
