Lychee Extract

Also known as: Litchi chinensis extract, lychee fruit extract, oligonol, lychee polyphenols

Effective Dosage

No established dose

What the Science Says

Lychee extract comes from the fruit of Litchi chinensis, a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia. It contains polyphenols and flavonoids that show antioxidant activity and, in lab studies, may inhibit enzymes involved in blood sugar regulation. The only animal research provided tested it as part of a multi-ingredient blend for obesity — so any effects seen cannot be attributed to lychee alone, and no human trials were provided to confirm these findings.

What It Doesn't Do

Not proven to burn fat in humans. No clinical evidence it controls blood sugar in people. The animal study used a combo product — lychee alone gets no credit for those results. Don't expect weight loss or diabetes benefits based on current evidence.

Evidence-Based Benefits

Lychee extract is derived from the lychee fruit and is often marketed for its antioxidant properties. However, the research supporting its health benefits is minimal, with only one paper found and no clinical trials conducted.

Weak Evidence

Effective at: Unknown (insufficient research data)

Absorption & Bioavailability

Unknown — no human pharmacokinetic or absorption data provided in the available studies

Red Flags to Watch For

  • Nearly all available evidence is from lab (in vitro) or animal studies — human clinical trials are absent from the research base
  • The one animal study tested lychee as part of a proprietary blend (SlimTrym), making it impossible to isolate lychee's contribution
  • Despite 1,000+ registered supplement products containing lychee extract, the clinical evidence base is extremely thin
  • Marketing claims around fat loss and blood sugar control are far ahead of the actual science
